Joachim Robbrecht (1979) works as a playwright, director and performer in the Netherlands and Belgium. For his work, he digs deep into historical and political layers that form the breeding ground for our contemporary mentality.
Inspired by motifs and references from the cultural archive, Joachim Robbrecht creates astute performances with a satirical and a lyrical character. As a writer and performer he worked or collaborated with, among others, Het Zuidelijk Toneel (Tilburg, NL), NTGent (Ghent, BE), Toneelgroep Oostpool (Arnhem-NL), De Warme Winkel (Amsterdam, NL), Dood Paard (Amsterdam, NL), Julian Hetzel, Sien Vanmaele. In addition, he supervises the learning trajectories of young artists at various courses such as the Antwerp Conservatory (Creative Writing), KASK Conservatory and DAS Theater Amsterdam (tutor and advisor). He is also a member of the small editorial board of Etcetera. He received the Ton Lutz Prize and the Charlotte Köhler Prize for his work as a director. For his work as a writer the Kaas&Kappes Prize and a nomination for the Taalunietoneeschrijven prize. His performance The Great Warmachine was specifically about the future of warfare and was an important motivation to ask him for Enkidu’s project.
